Last week WhatVan revealed the new vans credited with the WhatVan awards for 2018, with awards covering all of the new van segments. Vanman reveals all!
Every year a panel of new van experts from WhatVan chooses the winners of 19 prestigious awards and reveals the winner of the WhatVan Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year prize!
Here are this years’ award winning new vans!
The smallest van segment of them all has been dominated by Ford vans, the Ford Transit Courier has been with us since 2014 and has seen it somewhat replace the outgoing Fiesta van in the segment. Highly commended in this small segment of small vans was the Fiat Fiorino, with the segment only comprising of these two small vans and the car-derived Vauxhall Corsavan.
For the third consecutive year running, the Light Van of the Year prize has been claimed by the Fiat Doblo Cargo van. A makeover from Fiat vans last year saw an additional number of wheelbase and roof options and added a chassis cab and dropside to the line-up, cementing its place at the top of the Light Van category. Highly commented in this segment was the Volkswagen Caddy van.
Also regaining the title they won last year were the almost identical medium vans trio of the Peugeot Expert, Citroen Dispatch and Toyota Proace. The trio have a wide range of models available, class leading payloads of 1400kg and a range of the latest technology. Highly commended in the most competitive segment of all was the Ford Transit Custom van, Ford vans will be hoping that a new face-lift to the UK’s best-selling new van will be enough to help it claim top spot in WhatVan’s medium vans charts next year.
The recently revised Isuzu D-Max pick-up equipped with a new 1.9-litre engine, is an excellent pick-up van with phenomenal carry capability enhanced by the fact that it has achieved Euro 6 Emissions standards. The new D-Max is also capable of towing up to 3.5 tonnes! Highly commended in this segment was the new Volkswagen Amarok pick-up van.
Last but not least for the new van awards is the big award of Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) of the Year 2018. Volkswagen vans claimed the biggest of WhatVan’s prizes, with the new van that WhatVan has labelled “the most significant new model to arrive on the UK market during the past 12 months.” Some plaudit indeed, even more so when you look at the highly commended category and the Iveco Daily which recently won International Van of the Year 2018, quite some competition, however the new Volkswagen Crafter came out on top of the pile.
