The Transporter 4MOTION® all wheel drive system is designed to maintain traction in poor surface conditions like rain, snow, mud or gravel. By distributing drive to the wheels with the most grip, 4MOTION® offers stable road-holding and enhanced safety, reacting to the slightest loss of traction in milliseconds. Available with the 140PS and 180PS engines, 4MOTION® is linked through control units to the vehicle’s dynamic sensors, engine management system and gearbox, and is designed to be compatible with ABS. All vehicles fitted with 4MOTION® also have a locking rear differential for additional traction in extreme circumstances.
The NEW generation 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox available with the 140PS and 180PS engines, is a highly acclaimed transmission system making life much easier for the driver. DSG operates via two automatic clutches: while one is engaged, the other is ready to accept the next gear. This enables changing of gears much faster than a standard automatic gearbox or manual – in less than four hundredths of a second – making it ideal for stop-start city driving.
