A dependable old-stager that’s still worth a second glance.

Many van operators still prefer to buy one of the final examples of a model that’s been in production for several years and is due for the chop rather than purchase a newly launched product. They argue that all the defects will have been ironed out of a tried and tested design whereas a new model won’t have revealed its faults as yet; and they don’t want to be the guinea pigs. While Partner Origin’s date of execution has yet to be announced, there’s no denying that it’s tried and tested.

The predecessor to the new Partner, but still in production, it comes with a 3.0m3 cargo bay plus the ability to haul either 600kg or 800kg depending on the version chosen. Power comes courtesy of a 75hp/170Nm 1.6-litre HDi diesel hooked up to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Partner’s virtues include a surprisingly roomy cab. Good to see that the driver’s seat is positioned at just the right high for somebody who has to leap in and out all day delivering packages. If you want a few more goodies, then opt for Professional specification. Up for grabs solely on the 600kg model, it includes air conditioning, electric front windows and electric heated mirrors.

While Partner Origin’s ride doesn’t quite compare with what’s on offer from more modern designs, its performance is a lot better than one might expect. The handling is impressive too.

Service intervals are set at 12,500 miles.
