A crackerjack package that won’t break the bank.

With diesel at painfully-high prices already, choosing a van that’s fuel-frugal has to be a priority for many operators if they’re going to stay in business; and few vans use less fuel than Vauxhall’s diesel-powered three-door Corsavan. On the combined cycle it can achieve up to 62.8mpg with CO2 emission figures as low as 119g/km. That means it benefits the environment as well as your wallet. The drawback of course is that it won’t carry much. Payload capacity is 550kg and the cargo area is a modest 0.92m3. If you can live with these limitations however, then you’ll be quids in.

Customers can pick from a 1.3-litre CDTi diesel developing 75hp/170Nm or one providing 90hp/200Nm. The alternative is a 1.2-litre petrol lump capable of 70bhp/110Nm. Either a five- or a six-speed gearbox comes as standard depending on which model you pick. ABS comes as standard too, along with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist, and Electronic Stability Programme is on offer as an extra-cost option.

Vauxhall’s littlest load-shifter offers smooth engines, sharp handling notwithstanding the use of electric rather than hydraulic power steering and a remarkably composed ride. Opt for the 90hp engine used in the Sportive version and you’ll have precious few complaints about performance either.

Corsavan is protected by a three-year/60,000-mile warranty. Service intervals are set at 20,000 miles.
