An impressive bit of kit that’s a welcome addition to the Renault Trucks range.


Grossing at from 2.8 to 4.5 tonnes, the Renault Master is on offer with either front- or rear-wheel drive, panel van payload capacities extend from 994kg to 2,254kg and it can pull a trailer grossing at either 2.5 or 3.0 tonnes depending on the model selected. Cargo areas extend from 8.0m3 to 17.0m3. Power is provided by a 2.3-litre diesel pumping out 100hp/285Nm, 125hp/310Nm or 146hp/350Nm. A six-speed gearbox is fitted with an automated gearbox an extra-cost option on the 125hp and 146hp models.

ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution are both included in the price. Electronic Stability Programme is standard on rear-wheel drive models but it’s somewhat disappointing that Renault has not opted to fit it to everything. Master rides and handles well and the two beefiest models in the line-up offer plenty of performance. The 100hp version is a tad stodgy but should be OK if all you do is deliver around traffic-clogged city centres.

Master is protected by a three-year/100,000-mile warranty and oil drain intervals are set at 25,000 miles.

Renault’s latest offering is additionally produced as a chassis cab, a chassis crew cab and a platform cab. Tippers, dropsides and box vans are also available.
